What Causes a Pimple in the Ear?
A pimple in the ear may seem like a small issue, but it can be surprisingly painful and uncomfortable. Because the skin inside and around the ear is thin, sensitive, and packed with nerve endings, even a minor spot can feel tender, throbbing, or sore to the touch. The ear's narrow canal also leaves very little room for swelling, which is why pimples in this area often feel worse than acne elsewhere on the body.
There are several reasons why you might develop a pimple in the ear. Common causes include:
- Excess oil or sebum production
- Bacterial infections from unclean earbuds or hearing aids
- Blocked hair follicles
- Hormonal changes
- Poor hygiene or not cleaning the ear properly
- Using dirty mobile phones or pillowcases
